ebichu03Hey everyone! How’s your new year going? We’re happy to say our new year is going good. KI placed 2nd in Divine Designs iPhone Instigation contest. Glad to have placed because it was entered on a whim. 8D Furthermore, I’m looking for more contests to join, just because it’s awesomely good fun. If anyone’s having any, feel free to use the comments to advertise.

Onto Tutorial Thursday, recently I got a request email and for this week’s tutorial we’re doing another adventure into reds. This tutorial is more intense with the colors. In all reality, it makes reds and oranges appear where there were none to begin with. So, let’s do this.

Alright. So first we take a cropped 100 x 100 base. Doesn’t matter really but the blander the colors, you’ll get about the same result as I got. This tutorial works especially well with manga bases that you’ve colored yourself. Get yourself a texture you’d like to use as a background. This icon works as well without a background. But, it’s your choice.

Your first layer should be your background. Second layer should be your cropped base. Set your base to multiply 100%. You can make any little edits you want now. Usually, if a part of the background runs through an important part of the icon, use a white or gray to cover up or “erase” some of the background so it doesn’t interfere with the icon’s subject.

Now let’s get to the adjustment layers.

Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Hue/Saturation. You just need to edit ‘Master’ by entering these numbers into the field or adjusting the slider, kay? Whichever. Here ya go.

  • Hue: -8
  • Saturation: +54
  • Lightness: 0

Next, Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Selective Color.

Reds -

  • Cyan: +1%
  • Magenta: +100%
  • Yellow: +100%
  • Black: -26%

Tutorial Thursday # 1 ・∀・

[ 1 Comment ] Posted by risabesu about 433 days ago in Tutorials, Tutorials with PSDs

gumi1Alrighty, I’m going to try an keep up with this. So much so that I made hotmail remind me of it the day before so I can’t forget. For the first tutorial, it’s rather beginner level. So, if you’re uber experienced, well, then, this might be stuff you already know.

We’re going to make reds pop with one easy layer. Here we go.

  1. Open a new 100×100 canvas in photoshop.  Add your cropped, resized (whatever) base for Layer 1.
  2. Let’s get things looking crisp. Go to Filter > Sharpen > Sharpen and then click.
  3. Now, let’s get those shades of red going. Go to Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Selective Color. Now use the dropdown to select the colors and now input these CMYK values for each.

Reds -

  • Cyan: +100%
  • Magenta: 0%
  • Yellow: +30%
  • Black: 0%

Yellows -

  • Cyan: -100%
  • Magenta: 0%
  • Yellow: +27%
  • Black:  0%

Greens -

  • Cyan: 0%
  • Magenta: 0%
  • Yellow: 0%
  • Black:  0%

Cyans -

  • Cyan: 100%
  • Magenta: 0%
  • Yellow: -100%
  • Black:  0%

Blues -

  • Cyan: 100%
  • Magenta: 0%
  • Yellow: -100%
  • Black:  0%

Magentas -

  • Cyan: -100%
  • Magenta: +34%
  • Yellow: 100%
  • Black:  0%

Whites -

  • Cyan: 0%
  • Magenta: 0%
  • Yellow: 0%
  • Black:  0%

Neutrals -

  • Cyan: 0%
  • Magenta: 0%
  • Yellow: 0%
  • Black:  0%

Blacks -

  • Cyan: 0%
  • Magenta: 0%
  • Yellow: 0%
  • Black:  0%

And, that’s it ladies and gentlemen. Good luck, and if you feel like it, post your results. I’d love to see them. Oh and for the lazy people, here’s a psd to download. Click.

To Keep You Cool

[ 1 Comment ] Posted by risabesu about 560 days ago in Blog, PSDs, Resources, Tutorials, Tutorials with PSDs

mukuro1Well, it’s tutorial time. And, as I was thinking about cool, refreshing water, I decided to write a tutorial. Isn’t that decent of me? I KNOW RIGHT? My decency aside, let’s get on with this tutorial. I used a picture of Rei Fujita because well, he was just hot and staring at me.

UPDATE. Ka-chan informed me that I didn’t actually link the picture to the file… So, I had to redo the psd over again. I think I got it right. Looks pretty much the same in my honest opinion. Quick note, I think I over sharpened the picture. I tend to do that sometimes.
