Hey everyone! How’s your new year going? We’re happy to say our new year is going good. KI placed 2nd in Divine Designs iPhone Instigation contest. Glad to have placed because it was entered on a whim. 8D Furthermore, I’m looking for more contests to join, just because it’s awesomely good fun. Onto Tutorial Thursday, recently I got a request email and for this week’s tutorial we’re doing another adventure into reds. This tutorial is more intense with the colors. In all reality, it makes reds and oranges appear where there were none to begin with. So, let’s do this.

Alright. So first we take a cropped 100 x 100 base. Doesn’t matter really but the blander the colors, you’ll get about the same result as I got. This tutorial works especially well with manga bases that you’ve colored yourself. Get yourself a texture you’d like to use as a background. This icon works as well without a background. But, it’s your choice.

Your first layer should be your background. Second layer should be your cropped base. Set your base to multiply 100%. You can make any little edits you want now. Usually, if a part of the background runs through an important part of the icon, use a white or gray to cover up or “erase” some of the background so it doesn’t interfere with the icon’s subject.

Now let’s get to the adjustment layers.

Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Hue/Saturation. You just need to edit ‘Master’ by entering these numbers into the field or adjusting the slider, kay? Whichever. Here ya go.

• Hue: -8
• Saturation: +54
• Lightness: 0

Next, Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Selective Color.

Reds -

• Cyan: +1%
• Magenta: +100%
• Yellow: +100%
• Black: -26%

Yellows -

• Cyan: -45%
• Magenta: +50%
• Yellow: -77%
• Black:  0%

Greens -

• Cyan: 0%
• Magenta: 0%
• Yellow: 0%
• Black:  0%

Cyans -

• Cyan: +100%
• Magenta: +80%
• Yellow: -100%
• Black:  0%

Blues -

• Cyan: 0%
• Magenta: 0%
• Yellow: 0%
• Black:  0%

Magentas -

• Cyan: 0%
• Magenta: 0%
• Yellow: 0%
• Black:  0%

Whites -

• Cyan: +77%
• Magenta: 0%
• Yellow: 0%
• Black:  0%

Neutrals -

• Cyan: +100%
• Magenta: -14%
• Yellow: +10%
• Black:  -8%

Blacks -

• Cyan: 0%
• Magenta: 0%
• Yellow: 0%
• Black:  0%

NEXT, Layer > New Fill Layer > Solid Color. When the color selector comes up, copy and paste hex code #f26d7d into the bottom field. Hit okay and then done. Fill layers are so easy. ;D

Next, Another Selective Color Layer.  Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Selective Color.

Reds -

• Cyan: -100%
• Magenta: +100%
• Yellow: +100%
• Black: 0%

Yellows -

• Cyan: +17%
• Magenta: -38%
• Yellow: -100%
• Black:  0%

Greens -

• Cyan: 0%
• Magenta: 0%
• Yellow: 0%
• Black:  0%

• Cyan: +100%
• Magenta: -50%
• Yellow: +1%
• Black:  +27%

Blues -

• Cyan: 0%
• Magenta: 0%

NEXT, Another beautiful and easy Fill Layer.  Layer > New Fill Layer > Solid Color. When the color selector comes up, copy and paste hex code #d8d0a9 into the bottom field.

Well, Ka-chan is entering YFD’s Simple and Clean contest with a nifty set of icons. Good advertising for our site so, can’t fail there. Mostly because Ka-chan’s good with icons of course. Also, I’m gonna take the opportunity to say Merry Christmas to everyone now. Hope everyone gets everything and more of what they want from Santa Claus. We all know that jolly jerk owes some of us big still from childhood. I never did get that Malibu Barbie Dream house nor did I get a pony. At at my age, if he delivers it now, it’s rather late. And, that whole better late than never defense wouldn’t work at all. Well, what I’m trying to get at is Santa’s a scheming bastard. His real identity is that of a sadistic ninja who sneaks into your house after you’re asleep, eats your cookies and milk, leaves presents under a tree that are made by a slave labor force, candy in one of your socks that’s over a fireplace (fire hazard by the way) and then disappears into the night. As long as you understand this, enjoy your Christmas.

Okay. So, I was a slackass with the updates. Well aware of it, thanks guys! Let’s just move on from my slacking in one area to another. I was seriously interested in making a layout like this new one we have. Sucky thing is, I seriously suck at coding from scratch. But, Frail Frivolity’s template helped me out. I ported her stuff to WordPress and made a theme out of it in no time at all. Whee! Thanks be to Koa-chan!

Now, on to other things, I’m going to be applying to more link exchanges. Why? Because I’ll be revamping that section. We’ve got a crapload of broken links but I know it’s my fault. It’ll be done by tomorrow, which is Tuesday. For everyone who is currently linked with us. And speaking of more than just link exchanges, if you see something that should be a link and it’s striked-through, it’s broken. I got a neat plugin for wordpress that does it automatically. 8D

Now for updates, all the PSDs are working now.  Wallpapers are up now as well. For the PSDs, click on the download button in the info because clicking on the picture will just bring up the lightbox and not the download. Unless you want the PSD splash? ( -__-);; Weirdo. Wallpapers; just click on the size you want in the information below as well. It’ll take you to the image file. It loads, you right click, hit save as or set as desktop and then you’re done.

Next Tutorial comes on Thursday, where I’ll be teaching everyone to blend a header like the one recently added to the Headers section.

As for graphics, Ka-chan uploaded a bunch of icons, the whole first page is new stuff.  A couple new signatures were added. Check them out. Download them. Have fun boys and girls!

Well, ladies and gentleman, we’ve got a lot since the 9th of October. Two updates in a month, not that unusual my friends, but not any less important. New graphics were added. The newest being the nearest to the top on the pages. All graphics are in descending order by date added. So, they newest will be the first you see. But, big BIG BIG icon update, mostly thanks to Ka-chan. Thank goodness for her, because I barely added anything as far as graphics unless we already had them. But on to the new listing for stuff~

74 icons added. (More Ka-chan’s work than mine!)

4 headers added. (All stuff that really didn’t get published.)

PSD’s and such will all be up by this weekend. And I’m fixing a bunch of link exchanges and will be sending out links for some as well. I’ve got a few in the inbox, but have no fear if you haven’t been added yet. You will, I’ve been doing a lot of different things lately so bear with me.

I love funny stuff. Like a lot. I love to laugh at things on facebook like statuses from the status shuffle application. And I love people’s anger. And when you combine funny and angry you get semi-anonymous hilarity most of the time. On facebook, you know who said it but what are you going to do? Hit the ‘dislike’ button. PFFT! They don’t have one. Or, man, what I would give for a “Do Not Care” button.

One of these days, I’ll go through my list of friends and weed out who I seriously could care less about and get rid of the ‘pity pancakes’ friends or the ‘oh I went to high school with him’ friends. Until then, I’ll laugh endlessly at their losing at life when they text facebook with their ‘Who wants to hang out at Spanky’s bar tonight?’

For now, though, since kurenaicons is practically done and ready to launch… I added 10 new icons to brighten your day. They’re all from 4-chan and all are equally hilarious.
